This induction is essential for anyone requiring access to rail environments, ensuring compliance with TfNSW safety protocols and reducing the risk of accidents and incidentsIntroduction:

There are no formal entry requirements, however in alignment with industry consultation and the job role expectations, the following is needed for course admission:- A valid Category 3 or 1 Rail Medical assessment
- CPCWHS1001 Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry

The course is intended for employees, contractors, and supervisors who require access to the rail corridor under TfNSW guidelines, including track workers, maintenance personnel, safety officers, and operational staffIf participant is under 17, eligibility for a TfNSW Rail Safety Worker Authorisation must be obtained in writing from TfNSW Organisational Development (OD) before the learner can participate in training. This can take up to 10 working days on receipt of the applicable form. Please contact us to send the form to you if you have someone under 17.

- Demonstrate how to safely access and work in the rail corridor:
- Understand and apply TfNSW access protocols and safety procedures when entering and working within the rail corridor.
- Recognise the danger zone: Identify the designated danger zones in the rail corridor and understand the associated risks when working in these areas.
- Identify and access a safe place: Locate and safely access a designated safe place within the rail corridor, ensuring quick refuge from potential hazards or approaching traffic.
- Identify the direction of approaching traffic: Assess and determine the direction of approaching trains or other rail traffic to plan for safe movement and avoid accidents.
- Apply minimum sighting distances: Understand and apply the required minimum sighting distances to ensure visibility of approaching trains or vehicles, reducing risk in the rail environment.
- Identify and explain the use of communication tools when working in the rail environment: Recognise the various communication tools and systems used within the rail environment and demonstrate how to effectively communicate safety-critical information
- Identify and report unsafe situations within the rail environment: Recognise unsafe work conditions or practices, understand the importance of reporting these hazards, and follow the correct procedures for escalation and rectification.
