IC 002

Stage 2 - Shunting Procedures (NSW)

Description

This course describes the shunting procedures required for conducting shunting operations on the RailCorp/ARTC rail network in NSW.

Duration

Two days off job training plus three days on job training.

Competency assessment takes 1 day.

IC 004

Load and Secure Freight in Rail Terminals

Description

This course is delivered to Terminal Operators/Shunting Staff and Managers and describes the procedures for ensuring freight carried on rail wagons are secured correctly for transit by rail.

Duration

The course takes one day to complete both the off and on job training.

Competency assessment takes approximately 2 hours.

IC 006

Stage 3 - FX Train Inspection Procedures

Description

This course is delivered to Terminal Operators and locomotive drivers and describes the procedures for conducting a Full Train Inspection Procedure (FX). This course is also identified as FX 1.

Duration

Five days off job training plus five days on job training.

Competency Assessment ½ day.

IC 020

Stage 2 Safeworking - NSW Rail Network Safeworking

Description

This course is delivered to trainee assistant locomotive drivers and describes the fixed signalling and safeworking rules and procedures applicable to rail operations on the NSW Rail Network.

 

Duration

Ten days to complete the off job training and off job assessments (if all safeworking systems need to be covered).

On Job Training takes approximately is dependent on the number of safeworking systems that need to be covered.

Competency Assessment takes approximately 1 day and is done in conjunction with the Operational Assistance course IC 022.

IC 022

Stage 2 - Operational Assistance

Description

This course is delivered to trainee assistant drivers and describes the operational procedures required to correctly assist the driver to operate the train. The course gives an introduction to locomotive control systems and air brake systems, dangerous goods procedures, train inspection procedures and radio protocols.

Duration

Three days off job training.

Competency Assessment takes approximately 1 day and is done in conjunction with the appropriate safeworking course the participant has completed.

IC 024

Stage 2 - Safeworking ARTC Victorian Standard Gauge (Dimboola to Albury)

Description

This course is delivered to trainee assistant locomotive drivers and describes the fixed signaling and safeworking rules and procedures applicable to rail operations on the ARTC Standard Gauge Network in Victoria (Dimboola to Albury).

 

Duration

Five days to complete the off job training and off job assessments.

On Job Training takes approximately 2 days to complete (for each route Melbourne to Dimboola or Melbourne to Albury).

Assessment of Competence takes 1 day and is normally done on conjunction with the Operational Assistance course IC 022.

IC 026

GX Train Inspection Procedures

Description

This course is delivered to locomotive drivers and assistant locomotive drivers and describes the procedures for conducting a General Train Inspection Procedure (GX). This course is also identified as FX 2.

Duration

The off job training takes 3 days.

On job training takes 1 day.

Competency Assessment takes approximately ½ day to complete.

IC 028

Network Control Officer Procedures

Description

This course is delivered to ARTC employees and describes the fixed signals and rules and operating procedures that apply for Network Control Officers (Train Controllers) controlling rail traffic movements on the ARTC NSW rail network.

Duration

Ten days off job training (if all safeworking systems need to be delivered).

IC 030

Stage 3 - Safeworking ARTC Victorian Standard Gauge (Dimboola to Albury)

Description

This course is delivered to trainee locomotive drivers and describes the ARTC Safeworking Emergency Procedures that apply on the ARTC Victorian Rail Network between Dimboola and Albury.

Duration

Off Job training takes:

  • One day for the Melbourne to Albury (CTC and ABS) Safeworking Systems need to be delivered
  • Two days if Melbourne to Dimboola (CTC, ABS and Section Authority Working SAW) safeworking systems needs to be delivered.

On Job training takes two days per route.

Assessment of competence is conducted as part of the Locomotive Driver Assessment.

IC 032

Stage 3 - Diesel Locomotive Control Systems

Description

This course is delivered to trainee locomotive drivers and describes diesel locomotive control systems. This course is delivered in conjunction with courses:

  • IC 034 Locomotive Air Brake Systems
  • IC 036 Diesel Locomotive Fault Finding Procedures

Duration

Five days off job training (Completed concurrently with IC 034 and IC 036)

Three days on job training (Completed concurrently with IC 034 and IC 036)

Assessment of competence is conducted as part of the Locomotive Driver Assessment.

IC 034

Stage 3 - Diesel Locomotive Air Brake Systems

Description

This course is delivered to trainee locomotive drivers and describes diesel locomotive air brake systems. This course is delivered in conjunction with courses:

  • IC 032 The Diesel Locomotive
  • IC 036 Diesel Locomotive Fault Finding Procedures

Duration

Three days off job training (Completed concurrently with IC 032 and IC 036)

Three days on job training (Completed concurrently with IC 032 and IC 036)

Assessment of competence is conducted as part of the Locomotive Driver Assessment.

IC 036

Stage 3 - Diesel Locomotive Fault Finding Procedures

Description

This course is delivered to trainee locomotive drivers and describes diesel locomotive fault finding procedures. This course is delivered in conjunction with courses:

  • IC 032 The Diesel Locomotive
  • IC 034 Locomotive Air Brake Systems

Duration

Two days off job training (Completed concurrently with IC 032 and IC 034)

Three days on job training (Completed concurrently with IC 032 and IC 034)

Assessment of competence is conducted as part of the Locomotive Driver Assessment.

IC 038

Stage 3 - Train Management Procedures

Description

This course is delivered to trainee locomotive drivers and existing qualified locomotive drivers and describes train dynamics, in train forces and guidelines for controlling freight trains efficiently and safely.

Duration

  • Two days off job training for assistant drivers.
  • One day briefing for existing qualified locomotive drivers.

Two days on job training.

Assessment of competence is conducted as part of the Locomotive Driver Assessment.

IC 044

Stage 3 Safeworking - NSW Rail Network Safeworking

Description

This course is delivered to assistant locomotive drivers and describes the RailCorp/ARTC Safeworking Emergency procedures for train operations in NSW.

 

Duration

Three days to complete the off job training (if all safeworking systems need to be covered).

One day on job training.

Assessment of competence is conducted as part of the Locomotive Driver Assessment.

IC 054

Rail Safety Awareness in Rail Terminals

Description

This course is only delivered to Terminal Operators and contractors who need Track Safety Awareness when working in rail freight terminals.

The course takes approximately four hours to complete including the assessment of competence.

IC 062

ARTC National Code of Practice (NCoP) Course

 

Description

This course is delivered to Train Crew who operate trains over the ARTC Network from:

  • Dimboola to Kalgoorlie (CTC and TOW)
  • Crystal Brook to Broken Hill (ABS)

Duration

Eight days off job training.

Five days on job training.

Assessment of competence takes one day to complete.

IC 068

Stage 2 Safeworking - Victorian Broad Gauge Rail Network

Description

This course is delivered to trainee assistant locomotive drivers and describes the fixed signals and safeworking rules and procedures applicable to rail operations on the Victorian Broad Gauge Rail Network.

 

Duration

Ten days to complete the off job training and off job assessments (if all safeworking systems need to be covered).

On Job Training takes approximately 5 days to complete (if all safeworking systems need to be covered).

Assessment of Competence takes 1 day and is normally done on conjunction with the Operational Assistance course IC 022.

IC 070

Stage 3 Safeworking - Victorian Broad Gauge Rail Network

Description

This course is delivered to assistant locomotive drivers and describes the Safeworking Emergency procedures for train operations over the Victorian Broad Gauge Rail Network.

 

Duration

Five days to complete the off job training and off job assessments (if all safeworking systems need to be covered).

Emergency Working procedures are assessed during the final assessment of competence.

Assessment of competence is conducted as part of the Locomotive Driver Assessment.

IC 078

Dangerous Good Course

Description

This course is about handling Dangerous Goods and Hazardous materials. The course is tailored for train crew and terminal operators and describes the separation procedures for loading DG's on rail wagons. The course also described the emergency procedures for handling dangerous goods spillages and emergencies.

Duration

The off job training takes approximately four hours to complete.

Assessment of competence takes approximately 2 hours to complete.
